How it works

Different operating modes according to your presence

The room manager is aware of your presence in the room. That's how it is able to manage heating, lighting and other appliances appropriately, as necessary, when you are there, and when you're away. According to your presence, the room manager runs different operating modes, in which you can configure applications and appliances in different manner:

presence.jpg
  • In room mode: You can set the lights and heating at comfortable level the way you like it when you're present in the room.
  • Sleep mode: Setting to be applied when you're asleep in this room.
  • At-home mode: Set the ambiance when you're elsewhere around the house.
  • Night mode, when everybody has gone to bed, you can save energy by setting for lower temperature, and if you wish, you can also leave a night light on.
  • Away mode, settings to save energy during your absent.
  • Vacation mode, for longer absence, the room manager may help you save energy further, it is best however, to keep temperature just above freezing level.

Applications

sunrise.jpgMorning Call

Imagine waking up in the morning with a soft warm lights that gradually rise up just like the sunrise....

As the Sunrise Simulator wakes you up softly, the alarm melody is just there to remind you that it is time to get off bed.

A while earlier, the preheat function has already turned on the bathroom heater so that the bathroom and the towel will be warm when you actually get up. And all through the morning time, the bedroom will be brightly lit, to keep the ambient up. The MorningCall is one of room-service application designed to help you start the day.

There are other applications that can run simultaneously within the room manager:

  • Autoheating: A thermostat program to manage heaters based on your presence, to save energy when you're not there, to keep you warm when you're around.
  • Autolighting: Lights on when you're there, when it's necessary, and off when you're away.

You can download new applications into the room manager. More applications are available and more are on the way.

Meet Daisy and Wally

Daisy is ingénovie's first room-manager. She's responsible for managing heating, lighting and other appliances in the room.  Not bigger than a compact disk, she sits simply on a desk, coffee table, or you can have it mounted on the wall if you prefer, with the wallmount version Wally.

The room manager controls heating and lighting by sending commands to the smaller modules LiSwitch and PoSwitch. Learn more about other features and also Liswitch and Poswitch that helps Daisy to manage the room...

Installation

install.jpg

Installation is easy,

Room managers and other small modules simply plug into a wall outlet. Only the PoSwitch needs to be installed in place of a cable exit behind the radiator.

No extra wiring, no renovation works, the existing electrical installation can be used.

Whole house coverage. The room manager and the smaller modules talks to each other using powerline networking. Therefore all electrical appliances can be controlled individually.

Safety fallback! With room service system, your existing electrical wiring is still operational. Moreover, each room-manager is an independent unit, as it's not a centralized system, so failure in one room does not lead to another.

Starts small wherever you'd like, and grow as you deem necessary

You decide where to start installing the room-services, and you can grow the system as you deem necessary. Most will start from the living room, so that the room-manager can lights up the room and warm the house as you return from work. Other rooms can then benefit from the heating regulation and the energy saving just by installing PoSwitch behind each radiator.

Applications

Many applications can run simultaneously on a room-manager. You can also download new applications as they're available on our website.

Morning Call

sunrise2.jpgImagine waking up in the morning with a soft warm lights that gradually rise up just like the sunrise....

Morningcall.JPGSo much more than just an alarm clock, the morning call includes other useful features such as:

Weekday setting

Other than the wake up time, you can also set the weekdays on which you want the morning call to be active, so, no alarms on saturdays and sundays!

Melodies

You can choose among the available classic melodies that we've chosen for you. Or you can download your own, as the recognize a well known melody format (RTX or RTTTL).

Snooze time

Snooze time is also configurable. Once the alarm sets off, a touch on any key will stop the melody and restarts the alarm for another snooze time.

Sunrise Simulator

Connect a bedside lamp or other lamp in the bedroom to the sunrise simulator, as long as it supports dimming function, it will gradually lights up before the alarm sets off. (All incandescent lamps do!).

You can even set how fast the sun should rise.

Preheat function

The preheat function should be connected to a bathroom heater, or any other appliances which will be turned on at certain time before the alarm. You can set the time and the duration for the preheat to remains on.

Morning Time

The morning-time function lets you keep a light or other appliances on after the alarm sets off. It is nice to keep the bedroom light on while you're preparing for the day.

Autoheating

Autoheating.JPGA smart thermostat program to manage heaters, to save energy when you're not there, to keep you warm when you're around.

Just like a simple thermostat, you can simply set a temperature setting, and with the contextual setting, you can also set more specifically different thermostat setting for different modes.

The following is a typical setting that would allow you to optimize the energy saving, while maintaining the temperature at a comfortable level while you're there.

  • 20C for In-room mode and Sleep mode, or set to a comfortable temperature that you wish to have when you're in the room.
  • 19C for At-home mode, since you've just left the room and you might come back again soon, it may be wise to maintain the temperature close to comfortable level.
  • 17C for Night mode, for rooms which are unoccupied overnight, during these hours it's not necessary to keep thermostat high.
  • 15C for Away mode, as when you're away for the day, it's possible here to save energy significantly by lowering the thermostat.
  • 10C for Vacation mode, for longer absence, it's best however, to keep the temperature setting above freezing level.

Once you set these setting, there's nothing else to do!

Daisy sets the temperature based on your presence, and help you save energy automatically.

Do you know? Lowering 1 degree on the thermostat can save you up to 7% of heating cost!!
Daisy can do that for you.

Autolighting

Autolighting.JPGLights on when you need it, off when it's not necessary.

This application watch the ambient lighting, as well as your presence, and turns on the light when it's getting too dark. A few minutes after you leave the room, it will simply turn off the light. The autolighting can also turn off the light when it calculate that the room will be bright enough with the ambient lighting, for example when the sun shines back after the rain.

You can set the ambient lighting level to trigger the lights on, and you can also program different setting for different modes.

For a lamp with dimmer you can also set different lighting level depending on your presence, for example:

  • A bright lamp setting for In-room mode, as you deem necessary.
  • A dimmed lamp setting for Night mode and Away mode, so you won't get surprised by a strong bright light when you enter an empty room. As you stay a moment longer in the room, the manager will switch to In-room mode, and the lighting level will rise up to a brighter level.
  • Auto Lighting should be disabled during sleep mode, or set it to a very low level for a night lamp.

Do you know? Flipping on the wall switch when entering and leaving the room is such a habit that takes a while to forget, but after a while living with Daisy, you wouldn't even remember where the wall switches are.
If you wish, you can also re-use the wall-switch to control the lamp dimmer unit (LiSwitch). See the installation guide.
